This critter is actually a tuatara. Whilst these NZ natives are very rare, they do live a long time. One recently featured in the news (must be a slow news cycle).

Today's Gratitude Item: I got the last 320 gig hard drive that the store had - on special. Price was NZ$149.00 rather than NZ$249. Thus my vital files have now been backed up and I'm very happy.
